Plans and send limits

Starter, Base and Pro, the limits that can block a send, and what to do when you hit one.

Updated

There are three plans. What separates them is how many contacts you can store and how much you can send. Every plan gets the full composer.

What each plan includes

Starter: $7 a month, or $6 a month billed yearly

  • 500 contacts
  • 5,000 emails a month
  • 500 different people a month
  • 1,000 emails a day, 500 an hour
  • 1-step auto responders
  • Thunk Mail footer badge

Base: $17 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly

  • 2,000 contacts
  • 20,000 emails a month
  • No daily, hourly, or unique-recipient limits
  • Auto responders with any number of emails
  • Thunk Mail footer badge on by default, and you can switch it off

Pro: $37 a month, or $29 a month billed yearly

  • 7,000 contacts
  • No sending limits at all
  • Everything in Base

Need more than 7,000 contacts, or want to send from your own domain? Email sales@thunkmail.com and we'll put together a plan around your volume.

Before you pick a plan

A new account can import contacts, build emails, and set up signup forms before choosing a plan. Sending starts once you pick one. Test sends to yourself work either way.

Contacts and sends are different things

Your contact limit is how many people you can store. Your send limits are how much mail you can put out. They're counted separately, so a full audience you email once a month sits comfortably inside a plan that a smaller audience emailed daily would burst.

The limit people don't expect

On Starter, the monthly send allowance is 5,000 but you can only reach 500 different people in a month. Those two numbers work together: 5,000 emails spread across 500 people is ten emails each.

So mailing your list weekly is fine. What runs you into this limit is reaching lots of brand-new addresses in one month, because it counts people, not emails. Base and Pro don't have this limit.

When a send is blocked

The message names which limit stopped you and how much room is left. Hourly and daily limits clear on their own, so waiting is a real option. The monthly limits count the last 30 days, so room comes back gradually as older sends age out. Upgrading takes effect immediately if you'd rather not wait.

Unused sends don't roll over

Your allowance always covers the last 30 days, so there's no reset day and nothing to carry forward. Stored contacts are counted separately and aren't affected.

Contacts you aren't charged for

Bounced and unsubscribed contacts don't count toward your contact limit. You never pay to store an address you can't email. The same goes for addresses blocked at import: only valid, reachable contacts count.

On the Free plan?

The Free plan is no longer available to new accounts. Accounts that already had it keep it for as long as they stay on it, with the same limits as Starter. Once you move to a paid plan, you can't switch back to Free.

Changing plans

Manage your plan from Billing in your settings. Upgrades apply immediately and the difference is prorated, so you pay for what you use. Downgrades and cancellations run through the same portal. If you cancel, your account stays and everything you built is kept, but sending stops until you pick a plan again.
